— Wis in Defeat Silent Avalanche

Wis is a Lynx that appears in Armored Core: For Answer. He is ranked #25 in Collared.

In-Game BiographyEdit

A young Lynx who was only recently ranked by Collared. He pilots a red, reverse-legged craft tuned for close combat. This fourth generation Lynx cooperates with Rank 26 Yei as he seeks opportunities to expand his battle potential.

He appears alongside Yei in the mission, Defeat Silent Avalanche. It appears very likely that they sought to defeat Silent Avalanche in an effort to improve their reputation. With nothing left except for The Raven, they decide to confront and defeat him in an effort to boost their rankings. Wis plays the more active and aggressive role in the duo proving to be the more dangerous NEXT. The two are defeated in the confrontation with The Raven.

NEXT Scarlet Fox

Scarlet Fox is a lightweight, reverse-jointed NEXT optimized for brutal close-combat. Its main weapons, a dual EKLAKH machinegun arms, combined with its hard-hitting GRB-TRAVERS back-mounted grenade launcher is a very deadly combo. Its reverse-joints mean that it also possesses a great aerial combat capability, in contrast to the more ground-borne Emerald Raccoon. The mix of agility and firepower is very lethal, but is offset by its low defense, only slightly mitigated by the BFF Core it equips.

Some players have next to no trouble dispatching Mrs. Theresia but have been prevented from advancing thanks to this one Lynx. Wis' machinegun+grenade launcher combo is even deadlier in Reg. 1.40 thanks to its machinegun buff. Not only there are two machineguns, it has enough ammo to last the entire fight and its grenade launcher quickly reduces you to rubble, especially after your AP has been eaten. Despite so, Scarlet Fox has pretty bad stability and being hit by a bazooka will throw him off-balance. Other methods include sniping with rifles from afar. This carries the least risk of getting a grenade in your face as well as massively decreasing his combat capability by staying outside his range. Missiles used to be effective, but the general missile nerf in 1.40 made it quite unfeasible thanks to Scarlet Fox's maneuverability. Trying to outturn Scarlet Fox is sometimes a viable idea thanks to his limited turning ability, but ranged engagements are generally the safer choice.

As if Wis alone is not bad enough, Yei covers his back by being the sniper, thereby eliminating your range advantage. To make matters worse, Yei's Emerald Raccoon is hard to dislodge as it is quite armored. Therefore, it is often advisable to go for Scarlet Fox first, as Wis is less armored and deals more damage overall. While staying at range is still a good option, sniper-oriented NEXTs may find themselves low on ammo after the skirmish against Silent Avalanche units. The better option is to go toe-to-toe against Scarlet Fox. You'll need weapons that can track down Scarlet Fox's movement and damaging as well. A rifle/assault rifle combo can deal a sustainable damage, while a SAMPAGUITA+KAMAL shotgun combination deals heavy damage in one combined burst; this is ideal as generally, you want to spend as little time in front of him as possible thanks to his grenade launcher. Missiles are useful so long as Reg. 1.40 is not used. Whatever you do, focus on one target before tackling the other; both Wis and Yei work well together and getting distracted is often fatal.

Another strategy is to load up a tank type NEXT with heavy AP Parts (RAIDEN LEGS GA SUNSHINE CORE etc...) with grenade launchers on the arms, backups gatling guns and on the back, the gatling cannons, and drown them in ordinance.

  • Hmph. Silent Avalanche is a relic. You should have let me handle it from the beginning.
  • We're heading up, and you're our stepping stone. It's a dog eat dog world.
  • You weren't even at full capacity and I lost? ... I'm done.

Trivia Edit

  • Their involvement with Strayed suggest that they were attempting to kill him and steal his credit for defeating Silent Avalanche.
    • They may have also wanted to expand their potential as LYNX pilots, by defeating Strayed and prove their usefulness.
