Grey Lotus

Four Grey Lotus drones

The Grey Lotus is a heavily armored, unmanned attack drone used by the Foundation. It appears in Armored Core: Verdict Day. It is first encountered during the Story Mission 07: "Gravity" as a boss. Four of these autonomous weapons can be encountered online.

Information[]

The Grey Lotus is a heavily armored, autonomous weapon deployed by the Foundation. The Grey Lotus has a large amount of AP (comparable to Exusia and the N-WGIX), is equipped with a fairly versatile loadout and on top of that, will periodcally rotate at high speed to deflect attacks. When spinning, it emits a planar laser-blade that acts as a form of shield and takes less damage from gunfire. It also uses this planar-like laser-blade as its main method of propulsion.

Its main methods of attack consist of large numbers of launching clusters of small drones, a rather low-yield laser rifle-like shotgun, Ootheca-grade homing missiles (the 'blue snakes') and a large, powerful downward-facing laser cannon. It also possesses a powerful ram attack if the target gets too close.

Strategy[]

Story Mission 07 (Gravity):

The fight will start with the Grey Lotus starting on the other end of the map (where you started) and make its way towards the player. It will, at first, just attempt to dodge your attacks, almost as if it is trying to get a lock on you. Once dialogue between Fatman, Maggy and the Foundation spokesman begins, the Grey Lotus will start attacking you in earnest.

It will first launch a cluster of small drones, that almost look like mini-sized Ammons, as a distraction. These drones do very weak amounts of damage, but are primarily there to guide your attention away from the Lotus. It will then try to hit you with a barrage of red-coloured laser rounds. After the barrage, it will rise higher into the air, and then proceed to attempt and hit you with a laser-cannon based on its underside in a strafing manner. This attack is easy to dodge, as the Lotus will predict where you will be next, just simply dodge in the direction opposite, as the attack vector is fixed. Another thing to keep note of is that the laser cannon fires six times before the Lotus pauses, allowing for you to deal a large amount of damage for a brief time.

There is no real recommended weapon loadout for this boss, as it is relatively weak to all three damage types. The battle may seem to drag on however, as it has a high amount of AP. A really effective strategy against the Grey Lotus is to use a high-TE defensive AC with high mobility and a compliment of hard-hitting, high-damage weapons (e.g. Battle Rifles, Laser Rifles, Sniper Rifles. To name a few). Simply dodge its attacks, wait until it has finished strafing with its laser cannon, and then pour fire onto it. It is possible to hit while it is moving though, but it is far more difficult to do.

Special Sortie:

This fight is almost exactly the same as the Story Mission, albeit there are four of them and their attacks are different:

  • the clusters of drones used to distract you actively attack you (unlike Mission 07) and do more damage.
  • The strafing laser cannon attack is now more powerful and the duration has been extended (Each Grey Lotus will now fire two to three more times before stopping, adding to a total of 8-9 shots).
  • The close-range ram attack is also now more powerful, capable of destroying lightweight AC is one hit.

The strategy for taking care of the Multiplayer versions of Grey Lotus isn't that different from the Story version either. Any kind of weapon is effective against them as they have very low defense stats against all 3 types. The only thing is that you will have to not let the Grey Lotus units surround you, as they will unleash hell on you if they manage to do it. It is recommended to have a full team of tanks that are all fully-specced out for TE defense and dual autocannons, as Grey Lotus' weapons all deal TE damage and they have very low KE defense. Avoid as much as fire as you can while constantly spraying them with autocannon fire. If they fly up to attack with the strafing laser cannon attack, predict the shot trajectories and dodge them. It is best to spray them with gunfire as soon as they pause/slow down spinning, as that's the point when they're most vulnerable.
