A heavyweight unit, the SUNSHINE is a representation of GA's greatest strengths: durability and firepower. It has high AP for its class, great resistance to solid ammunition, and high tolerances. With heavy armor and multiple solid shell weapons and missiles, the SUNSHINE is a versatile unit capable of taking on most targets from close to mid-range and serves well as a support unit. It does, however, suffer from lower mobility and low energy defense ratings, aswell as having relatively weak Primal Armor.
Late to the development of NEXTs compared to other Companies, GA was desperate to keep up with the others. The SUNSHINE was the result of this endeavor. Rightly or wrongly, many of its criticisms were that the SUNSHINE was nothing more than an upscaled, Primal Armor-equipped GA03-SOLARWIND. What is true however that the SUNSHINE shares many of its mechanics employed with the SOLARWIND, making maintenance easier. On the other hand, controlling the machine is quite difficult due to its bulk and weight, rendering the mobility advantage provided from its boosters (despite having the best thrust-to-drain ratio) almost nil.
The SUNSHINE was first and foremost, designed with the intention to utilize common GA armaments; bazookas, missiles, and heavy machineguns. The design reflects this as the arm parts feature the best recoil-dampening mechanism unrivalled by other models, including GA's own later models. It is so stable that Arisawa Heavy Industries decided to adapt it to their own KIRITUMI design. Other than that however, the SUNSHINE lacks adequate camera functionality, arm maneuverability, and worst of all, low energy defenses and a PA value low enough to compete with the Y01-TELLUS . The Couger-designed generator did give it plenty of energy to go around, but it is very bulky, contributing much to its weight, in addition to having poor KP Output. With respect to other Company designs, the SUNSHINE is notably low in its Primal Armor rectification, resulting in less than average protection from its PA, instead relying on its tough exterior and heavy weaponry to defeat its foes before they defeat it.
Not many LYNXs use this model, except for Menno Ruh and her Primitive Light. On the upside though, the SUNSHINE paved the way for arguably more popular (and versatile) variants such as the SUNSHINE-L and the SUNSHINE-E. Before and during the National Dismantlement War, the SUNSHINE served as GA America's main NEXT; by time of ACFA, only a few Lynx use this model, as most now pilot GA's newer model, the NEW SUNSHINE.
The weapons included are part of the original schematic during the LYNX War. Later releases of this schematic leave the weapon units empty to allow for user customisation.
